Summer Arts Program 2016
July 5th – August 12th 2016
MUSIC AND MOVEMENT
Pre K and K- This class will expose students to the basic foundations of music: pitch, rhythm, notation, and melody. Through hands on learning activities, students will get the chance to be creative and express themselves through music. The content of the class will also serve as a review and learning tool for number, language and listening skills. Students will have the opportunity to explore singing, percussion instruments, imaginary play, and experiment with rhythmic improvisation all while improving their coordination and motor skills. In addition to the musical skills learned, students of LJMS will develop confidence and the ability to improve their social skills by learning to work together.
ARTS & CRAFTS
-Students will spend time engaging in lanyard, origami, jewelry making, painting ceramics, stage prep and more.
THEORY, PIANO, VOICE WORKSHOPS
-This workshop will be comprised of children of mixed ages and offers to develop understanding as well as character. Our teachers use a variety of methods, including games and practice techniques to teach music theory as well as music history. LJMS students will also learn how to play and sing in an ensemble. Students will perform at the end of each session.
DANCE & MUSICAL THEATER WORKSHOPS
-This workshop will be a hands on creative class. Students will be exposed to the basic foundations of drama and will explore acting, play writing, and improvisation. We will provide opportunities for students to use listening; speaking, reading and writing skills in a variety of dramatic forms of expression, in order to strengthen their understanding of drama. Students will be able to enhance their comprehension skills through reading and activities which require character interpretation. LJMS Students will also have the opportunity to study a few different types of dance, as choreography will be included in the play. Our young learners will have the opportunity to perform group pieces as well as enhance their own individual technique. This class values creativity, and differing expressions and interpretation of assignments. The performance class in the afternoon will culminate with a group performance in which all members must participate.
By participating in this program students will be able to:
- Develop a unique approach towards the arts.
- Perform alone, and with others, a varied repertoire of music and skits.
- Learn the fundamentals of music theory.
- Listen to, analyze, and describe music.
- Evaluate music and musical theater performances.
- Develop ensemble skills.
- Develop an appreciation for multicultural styles of music, drama, and dance.
- Increase confidence, creativity and the ability to express themselves.
These workshops are designed so that students will have ample time to work on strengthening their craft, while also getting to explore other areas of interest. By exposing the students to various traditions and styles, we hope to increase their confidence, creativity, and ability to express themselves. Workshops will be held in 50 minute increments.
Create An Experience!
The structure of the camp will allow time for students to explore the basic foundations of other performing arts while working on technique, form, and a performance piece for their major discipline. The close knit nature of the program will allow students to cultivate friendships with others who have similar interests. The session will end with a performance in which all students must participate.
Form Bonding Memories!
We are a unique program because we tailor our small class sizes to enable the teacher to be more attentive to each student. We also have highly trained teachers who have traveled all over the world and can offer life lessons and encouragement to the future performers of today. We hope these young artists gain a lasting appreciation of the art forms experienced as a participant and as an audience member.
